Half Day Kisumu- Luanda Magere Tour

KISUMU EXCURSION

“Lwanda” in Luo dialect means Rock. There is a mythical story about Magere as told by a local curator at the site. The story is related to the tribal war between the Luos in Kano Sidho and the Nandis about the grazing land for the animals. The Nandis used to kill the luos in the hundred until Magere decided to join the war one day. The Nandis were killed in their hundreds. Both sides were amazed at the power and strength of this gigantic Luo warrior. As the wars were being fought, the Nandis were dying in their dozens each time. They decided to give him a wise who later betrayed him, hence his death.

Itinerary Overview

Drive to Awasi junction, divert on your left hand side and then drive to the site where one of the great Luo sons was laid to rest. Magere was staying in Kano in a clan called Sidho, however, he was not a true Kano man, he was coming from Kombe clan which was not Luos but “Mwa”. The curator will recite the Mythological story of Luanda before we drive back to Kisumu city to end your tour.
