BIRDING IN KENYA

Kenya is a prime destination for an ornithological holiday all year round. The tremendous geographical range gives Kenya a variety of climates and landscapes, hence the second highest number of species in Africa. The best places to visit all year round for bird watching are Abedares, Meru National Park, Lewadowns, Lake Naivasha and Masai Mara Game Reserve.

VIEW ITINERARY

Day 1: Nairobi

Arrive Nairobi where you are met and transferred to your hotel. Tonight, enjoy a special welcome dinner at the hotel.

Day 2: Nairobi – Aberdares 

Drive to the Aberdare Mountain Range and your night in a tree hotel. This evening, watch for animals as they come to the floodlit waterhole to drink water.

Day 3: Aberdares – Meru

Drive to Meru National Park, arriving in time for lunch. Meru National Park is a luxuriant forest area, supported by the permanent streams originating in nearby Mt. Kenya. This afternoon, game view in the park.

Day 4: Meru

Morning and afternoon game drives are included today. Buffalo, giraffe, eland and oryx are common in the park. This area is most famous for being Joy and George Adamson’s base for raising Elsa, their famous loin.

Day 5: Meru – Lewa Downs

Drive to Lewa Downs, one of Kenya’s oldest family ranches. Spend the afternoon relaxing on your private verandah.

Day 6: Lewa Downs

A full day at Lewa Downs includes game viewing, walks or just relaxing by the pool side.

Day 7: Lewa Downs – Naivasha

Drive into the Great Rift Valley today, and your private home on the banks of Lake Naivasha. This afternoon, why not take a trip on the lake?

Day 8: Naivasha - Maasai Mara

After breakfast, Drive to Masai Mara with picnic lunch en-route. On arrival, you will enjoy an introductory evening game drive, later check-in your accommodation.

Day 9: Maasai Mara

A full day in Kenya’s most famous reserve allows time for both morning and afternoon game drives. Bird life is prolific in the Mara and all of the big cats are present.

Day 10: Maasai Mara – Nairobi

After a final game drive this morning, drive to Nairobi with picnic lunch to end your tour.
